Founded in 1933 at the suggestion of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee provides relief, rehabilitation, protection, post-conflict development and resettlement services to people in countries that have been affected by violent conflict and oppression. The organization delivers lifesaving aid in emergencies, rebuilds communities, cares for war-traumatized children, rehabilitates health care and water sanitation systems, reunites separated families, establishes schools and trains teachers. Each year it assists more than 15 million individuals in more than 25 countries. Of each dollar the International Rescue Committee spends, 90 cents are committed to programs and services that directly benefit the people it helps. The International Rescue Committee has headquarters in New York. Its funding is provided via charitable donations of money, services, materials, equipment and supplies from both individuals and organizations.
