Established in 1934, the New York City Housing Authority one of the largest public housing authorities in North America that provides affordable housing in a safe living environment for low- and moderate-income residents throughout the New York. It administers a citywide Section 8 Leased Housing Program in rental apartments. The agency offers several opportunities for its residents to participate in a variety of community, educational and recreational programs, as well as job readiness and training initiatives. Its Conventional Public Housing Program has more than 178,350 apartments in over 340 developments throughout the city in nearly 2,630 residential buildings.
