Nefesh is an international network of Orthodox mental health professionals that was founded in 1992. With over 750 members worldwide, including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Israel, Brazil, Belgium, and Argentina, Nefesh aims to address mental health issues within the Orthodox Jewish community. They provide leadership, integrative education, and support in the field of personal, family, and community mental health, offering conferences, online sessions, CEU credits, a vibrant listserv, low-cost supervision, mentoring, and professional development.
Guided by rabbinic advisors and a rabbinic liaison, Nefesh brings together Torah-observant psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychiatric nurses, and other mental health professionals, as well as Rabbanim, mechanchim, attorneys, social service agencies, and allied professionals. Their goal is to enhance the emotional well-being and unity of Klal Yisroel (the Jewish people) by developing approaches based on mental health principles within a Torah perspective and halachic framework, addressing critical issues facing professionals and Jewish families and communities.
