T he Torsone Family has been meeting the special needs of community families since 1928 when the grandfather of licensed owner Anita Torsone Freer founded the funeral home. His name was Michael Torsone; thus comes the name of the funeral home in his memory. Since that time, four generations of Torsone family members, licensed to practice funeral directing, have been dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to all people who come to them for assistance. Anita Torsone Freer and her son John Beck, work to uphold the standards of competent and compassionate care for which their ancestors are known. This philosophy of caring professionalism was nurtured by the now deceased John, Guy and Antoinette Torsone and surviving Ruth Ann Torsone. T orsone's is a full service funeral home with branches in Highland, N.Y. and Poughkeepsie, N.Y. providing traditional and non-traditional funerals, memorial services and cremation options for people of all religious denominations at a cost that is reasonable and within the means of each family. Pre-arrangement counseling is available for any family in their own home or at both locations of the funeral home. T he architectual style of each building is historically beautiful in nature. The Highland branch located at 38 Main Street dated 1897, recently renovated, was an original home of the Elting Family, descendants of the Village's founder. The Poughkeepsie branch located at 218 Mill Street, dated 1859 is a designated historic site; the home of John Guy and Matthew Vassar Jr., nephews of the founder of Vassar College. The atmosphere at both homes is warm and comfortable in a beautiful historic setting. Services also can be held off premises in one's own home, place of worship or other.
