Masonry is one of the oldest fraternal organizations in the world and local units of Masons are organized into lodges. Smithtown is home to one of the 13,200 lodges in the United States. The Masonic Fraternity has deep roots in the Smithtown community dating back to the early 1900s. The group meets every second and fourth Wednesday of each month, in addition to participating in other group activities. Membership is only open to men 21 years of age or older and candidates must demonstrate good character, a belief in a supreme being and immortality of the soul, and provide references from one Mason and three other individuals.
