Founded in 1938, The March of Dimes is a nonprofit organization that handles cases related to pregnancy and baby health. The organization helps to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. It conducts researches in various fields, including biochemistry, microbiology, developmental biology, genetics and pediatrics. The March of Dimes also supports neonatal intensive care units designed to treat sick babies. The organization offers various drug treatments to replace surgery for babies with a common heart defects. It offers folic acid education and food fortification solutions to prevent neural tube defects. The March of Dimes has been hosting March for Babies, formerly known as WalkAmerica, annually since 1970.
