FAD Bio-Anze Urh, MDAnze Urh, MD, is a gynecologic oncologist who treats cancer of the cervix, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina and vulva. In addition, he manages complex gynecologic conditions such as endometriosis, ovarian abscesses, pelvic infections and more. He performs surgery at Huntington Hospital, South Shore University Hospital, and Mather Hospital. "I love solving complex medical problems," says Dr. Urh of his decision to become a doctor. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology and breast surgery at Brown University Medical School. At Northwell Health, Dr. Urh works with a team of specialists to provide holistic, personalized care, including imaging specialists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pelvic floor rehabilitation specialists and physical therapists. He has extensive expertise in robotic-assisted surgery using the DaVinci robot, and laparoscopy. These approaches typically result in less blood loss and faster recovery times for patients, compared with open procedures. He also performs vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES), which combines laparoscopic and vaginal approaches to access pelvic organs. In addition, Dr. Urh is an assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. He conducts research, including investigating the role of minimally invasive surgery versus open surgery in cervical cancer. For Dr. Urh, the best part of his job is connecting with patients. "Patient care is partially an art, requiring compassion and a holistic approach," he says. "You have to ensure that patients and their families feel comfortable and confident."
