History
Steve and Susanne Messmer acquired Lively Run Dairy in 1982, after moving their family from Germany to the United States. The entire Messmer family fell in love with the goats and their farm. In time, Pete came to be the main cheese maker and Dave came to help with the business elements of the farm. Lively Run Dairy, a contributing member of the Finger Lakes Cheese Trail, helps to pioneer goat cheese in the American market place. The farm is consistently growing and produces 40,000 pounds of goat cheese annually. Today, the goat milk is supplied by 400 goats located at 2 partner farms. The dairy's authentic artisanal cheeses remain inspired by the French method and are all small batch made, by hand, on a sprawling 22 acre farm. We also produce a variety of cow milk cheeses. We purchase the milk from Persoon Dairy, right here in Interlaken . These delicious cheeses are all-natural, containing no artificial additives or preservatives.
