The American Legion was chartered by the United States Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, the nonprofit organization offers community-based services. Its more than 3 million members through over 14,000 posts worldwide offers immunization, substance abuse and crime prevention and financial assistance programs for veterans children. The American Legion also provides educational programs for the public. The organization conducts award ceremonies and volunteer activities.
