Over the course of more than sixty years, the gallery showcased major exhibitions of prominent artists such as Lichtenstein, Calder, and Dubuffet, leaving a lasting impact on the art community. Sadly, the gallery announced its closure on December 31, 2020, after Jim's passing in 2019, but its legacy and contributions to the art world will be remembered. The James Goodman Gallery was not only a place of business but a second home for Jim and his family, friends, clients, and colleagues. Throughout its existence, the gallery fostered a sense of collegiality and mentorship, with Jim generously guiding and inspiring young dealers. The gallery's dedicated staff, including Patsy Tompkins, the Executive Director, and Alix Holloway, the Director of Sales, played instrumental roles in its success. As the gallery winds down its operations, Patsy will pursue her own bookkeeping business, while Alix will launch her own art advisory business, AH Arts LLC, in Chelsea. The gallery's archives have been donated to the Archives of American Art, and its library has been gifted to the Burchfield Penney Art Center and the University Libraries at the University at Buffalo, NY.
