Dr. Himisha Beltran is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology. Her clinical focus is in caring for patients with prostate cancer. As Director of Clinical and Translational Researcher of the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine (ipm.weill.cornell.edu), she also serves as a liaison for several bench-to-bedside translational research efforts at Weill Cornell aimed towards bringing precision medicine and next generation molecular assays directly to patients. Dr. Beltran's lab is focused on studying treatment resistance in prostate cancer. Her lab has been particularly focused on the development of small cell neuroendocrine prostate cancer, an aggressive subtype of prostate cancer. By studying the RNA and DNA of these tumors, she is learning how these cancers evolve, identifying molecular alterations to target with drugs, and developing clinical trials to bring new effective therapy to patients. She is also involved in writing and leading several clinical trials, and participates in national and international trials through the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Foundation and National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Beltran is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award, AACR Women in Cancer Research Scholar Award, Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology Clinical Scholar Award, Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Clinical Investigator Award, and an American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI) Young Physician Scientist Award.
