Founded in 1992, High School for Environmental Studies serves more than 1,200 students in grades 9 through 12. The school offers courses in French, biology, chemistry, calculus and English literature. It provides opportunities to participate in athletic activities, such as basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer. High School for Environmental Studies also offers programs in wildlife conservation, marine science, vocal music, college writing, sociology and psychology. The school provides extracurricular activities, including recycling, roof gardening and jazz band. In addition, it operates Internet and political clubs. The school has a parent-teacher association and library. High School for Environmental Studies operates the Friends of the High School for Environmental Studies.
