History

The site of an early 20th-century farm, Helmer Nature Center was formerly a school before it became a part of WICSD in 1973. It has operated as a wildlife preserve and outdoor classroom ever since.

Specialties

Helmer Nature Center is an environmental educational facility which operates as a part of the West Irondequoit School District. We provide educational programming to students as well as events for the public. Our 42 acres of land includes 1.3 miles of easy to hike trails and houses local wildlife.

Harris Hill Elementary School

Located in Penfield, N.Y., Harris Hill Elementary School is a part of the Penfield Central School District. The school conducts classes in language arts, reading, mathematics, science, social studies, spelling and vocabulary, music, and health and physical education. Harris Hill Elementary School also offers various sports activities, such as basketball, volleyball, bowling, swimming, track and field, softball, tennis and soccer. The school offers an after-school tutoring program to help students who need extra assistance.
