Dr. Summe is the Associate Chair of Dermatology at Lenox Hill Hospital. She is also an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She is board certified in Dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology. She practices medical, surgical, and limited cosmetic dermatology in the Flatiron District of Manhattan. Prior to joining Northwell, she worked in a private practice on the Upper East Side. Dr. Summe earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School. She then completed her internship in Internal Medicine at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital and residency in dermatology at the University of Massachusetts. During her final year of residency, she served as a chief resident. Prior to medical school, Dr. Summe graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University. She also completed a Master of Science degree in Nutrition Science from Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons. She then completed an additional year of research on bariatric surgery and diabetes at Columbia's Obesity Research Center. Dr. Summe has been published in well-respected journals including Pediatric Dermatology and Annals of Surgery. She has written book chapters on perioral dermatitis, viral exanthems, and corticotropin releasing hormone. She has been interviewed for numerous media outlets including BuzzFeed, HuffPost, Glamour, Today, Newsday, Vice, and the Queens Chronicle. At UMass, Dr. Summe was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, which is based on leadership, character, community service, and professionalism. She also received the Glasgow-Rubin Certificate of Commendation for Academic Achievement, which is awarded by the American Medical Women's Association to women who graduate in the top ten percent of their medical school class. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Summe has an interest in education. She previously served as the Course Director for the medical school's dermatology curriculum, and she also precepts third- and fourth-year medical students in her dermatology clinic. Dr. Summe co-directs the department's annual CME conference, "Practice Pearls in Dermatology". She has also served as a judge for the Dermatology Society of Greater New York's annual Stritzler Resident Competition.
