Founded in 1970, Harlem Children's Zone is a nonprofit, community-based organization that works to enhance the quality of life for children and families in New York City. Formerly known as Rheedlen Centers for Children and Families, the organization operates more than 15 centers that serve over 13,000 children and adults, including nearly 10,000 at-risk children. The Renaissance University for Community Education, a youth development program, serves more than 200 adolescents, fosters academic growth and career readiness through the innovative use of the arts, media literacy, health and multimedia technology. Harlem Children's Zone s other programs include Asthma Initiative, Shaping Minds Around Reading and Technology, and Community Pride. It is based in New York City.
