GLSEN is a national organization based in New York, NY that has been championing LGBTQ issues in K-12 education since 1990. Their mission is to ensure that LGBTQ students are able to learn and grow in a school environment free from bullying and harassment. Through their research and experience, GLSEN has identified four major ways that schools can create a safe and supportive environment for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. These include developing supportive educators, implementing comprehensive policies, promoting inclusive curriculum, and supporting student GSAs (Gender and Sexuality Alliances).
GLSEN believes that every student has the right to a safe, supportive, and LGBTQ-inclusive K-12 education. They work as a national network of educators, students, and local GLSEN Chapters to make this right a reality. With nearly 30 years of experience, GLSEN has been at the forefront of protecting the rights of LGBTQ youth and advocating for inclusive schools. They offer various programs and resources to empower students, educators, and communities to create positive change in their schools and ensure that LGBTQ students are treated with respect and dignity.
