Fountain House is a nonprofit self-help program, operated by a professional staff with aid from individuals recovering from mental illness. The center was founded in 1948, and is located in New York City. It provides employment, educational and housing opportunities to members. The center offers advocacy services for its members that includes letter writing campaigns, participating in demonstrations, and active lobbying on political issues. It provides classes on photography, computer training, poetry, creative writing, cooking, book reviews, English and mathematics. The center also offers several dance parties, music classes and holiday-themed programs. Fountain House s programs include group workshops, written training materials and filmed training for members.
