Currently one of only six locations of this grocery chain, founded in New York City in the 1930s, the nine-year-old Plainview Fairway is a sprawling building with high ceilings and a relatively large collection of specialty items. The decoration, color scheme, signage and department placement give the store a neighborhood feel.
Across from the deli counter filled with unique types of prosciutto and Spanish jamon, the store offers its own brand of olive oil. An adjoining section features a huge olive bar, a grain bar and an international cheese selection. Aroma fills the air around the open barrels of coffee beans. At the checkout, each aisle has a sign offering a tidbit of trivia or information about Fairway. Visit the chain's website for information on catering, gift baskets, promotions and specials.
