The Sheriff's Office is administered by the Dutchess County Government in New York. It specializes in the protection of lives of people and preservation of properties. The office maintains a law enforcement division that is involved in the management of city, town and village ordinances. It manages Crash Investigation Unit, which investigate the scene of serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents. The Sheriff's Office conducts educational seminars for fire and police departments. It also administers crime prevention programs that include rape and sexual assault prevention and Child Safety Seat Inspection.
