Depressed Black Gay Men (DBGM) is a non-profit organization based in New York City that focuses on recognizing and addressing the mental health needs of LGBTQIA Black individuals and people of color in the African Diaspora. Through their programs, such as Sons and HER, they provide support groups for gay men of color who struggle with mental health and for mothers and mother-like figures who have lost sons to suicide or violence. DBGM also organizes conferences, like the In My Mind Mental Health Conference, and produces films like YANA, which document the psychosocial factors contributing to depression and suicide attempts among Black gay men.
Additionally, DBGM aims to create a more inclusive mental health care system by exploring and integrating ancestral and traditional healing practices with contemporary psychological constructs. They also host the LGBTQ POC Global South Summit, bringing together LGBTQ people of color from various regions to share their stories and experiences. As a recognized non-profit, DBGM relies on donations to continue their important work in raising awareness, changing lives, and saving lives.
