The Dutchess County Resource Recovery Agency (DCRRA) is a public benefit agency established in 1982 to oversee the operation of the Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) in Poughkeepsie, NY. The RRF, operated by Win Waste Innovations Dutchess County LLC, is a waste-to-energy facility that safely incinerates household pharmaceuticals and combusts most of the garbage collected in Dutchess County, generating renewable power and recovering millions of pounds of ferrous metals for recycling annually.
With a capacity to process 164,000 tons of post-recycled waste per year, the RRF converts waste into 9.3 megawatts of renewable power daily, enough to supply electricity to over 9,000 homes. In addition, the DCRRA provides a vital community service by incinerating medications, keeping them out of the water system and preventing their misuse or accidental ingestion. Since 2009, the agency has safely incinerated over 110,078 pounds of pharmaceuticals, benefiting Dutchess County and seven surrounding counties free of charge.
