David Bowler PhilosphyDavid Bowler Wine is a New York based importer and distributor of fine, hand crafted wines from around the world. Working with importers and directly with wineries, it is our mission to present wines of personality and character, wines that reflect something about where they are made and who made them. For the most part this means wines that are un-manipulated, organically farmed, and true to their viticultural heritage. Our main focus is on the wines of France, Germany, Spain, Italy, California, and Argentina. Most are small, family run farms with owner/winemakers. We are proud to able to make these wonderful and delicious wines available to our customers. And of course, because great wine is a living product, all of our wines are shipped and stored in a temperature controlled environment. David Bowler HistoryI started the company after twelve years of experience in retail and wholesale wine gigs ( just over a year at Crossroads Wine Shop in Manhattan, more than six years with Michael Skurnik Wines, followed by three years with Daniel Johnnes at Jeroboam Wines ). We began David Bowler Wine in the fall of 2003 with a small but solid book of German and French wines and two employees: Charlie Woods and Amanda Miller. Charlie and I knew each other from having sold the German wines of Rudi Wiest in New York and Amanda was hired straight out of school based on the sheer force of her personality ( and a good recommendation ). With a few wines, a vision, and a lot of ambition, we began to sell wine to key accounts in New York and New Jersey. In the seven years since opening, we have grown to 24 employees and expanded our portfolio considerably. We now represent wines from most of the major wine regions in the world and work with many of the region's leaders in quality. France, Germany, Spain, California, Italy, and Austria are all well represented and we have a growing book of wines from Argentina. Because we are a small company, we focus on the fine wine market. Our wines are found in the best restaurants and retail stores throughout New York and New Jersey. Recently the company has expanded its distribution to include Pennsylvania and North Carolina. As for Charlie and Amanda, Charlie left at the end of 2007 to start his own importing company, Bonhomie Wines, and Amanda remains with the company today, playing a key executive role in Administration and Finance.A company is only as good as its employees. We have the best and finest office staff and sales staff of any company, regardless of size. A quick look through their bios will illustrate the point. The company has been successful because of the quality and value of our wines and because of the positive relationships built over time between our customers and our salespeople. Treating customers and employees with respect and sticking to our mission of seeking out and offering for sale interesting and honest wines, we look forward to many more years of sustainable growth, more wine discoveries and further adventures along the wine trail.
