History
Begun in 1978 and officially opened in 1982 by Francois Cachelin who ran the garden for 25 years. We took the place of a single burned building and have been flourishing ever since. In 2012, we earned the Best Community Garden in NYC award by the NY Daily News. A friendly place to meet neighbors, eat lunch, read or work on your laptop. The garden is also available for private events, photo shoots, etc. Contact us if you are interested - it helps maintain the space.
Specialties
The garden is usually open to the public April-October, nearly every day from 11am until dusk. During the off season, you may find us open on weekends. We specialize in peace and quiet. Although we have many visitors due to our many open hours, the garden is always calming. We are gradually becoming a woodland garden of NYC native plants. We can almost guarantee birds singing and have earned National Wildlife Federation status.
