Founded in 1980, COVANTA Niagara Company works in the areas of conversion of municipal solid waste to energy. The facility processes more than 2,250 tons of waste per day and sells steam to chemical facilities and electricity to Niagara Mohawk Power Company. COVANTA Niagara Company is a part of Covanta Holding Corporation, which deals with energy-from-waste and renewable energy projects. Its facilities convert over 16 million tons of waste into nearly 8 million megawatt hours of clean renewable electricity and create more than 10 billion pounds of steam that are sold to a variety of industries.
