The Commack Fire Department is governed by Suffolk County in New York. Founded in 1906, it employs a work force of more than 125 people. The department offers a range of fire prevention and suppression and emergency medical services. It maintains various rescue trucks and fire engines. The Commack Fire Department also provides training classes related to fire prevention techniques in the Commack School District. It trains over 5,000 children every year. The department utilizes a variety of equipment, including jaws, cutters and rams. In addition, it operates an online store that features stickers, sweatshirts, T-shirts, patches, hats and books.

Ridgefield Fire Department

The Ridgefield Fire Department has 33 career members, 50 volunteer members and eight fire dispatchers comprising a 91-person force. There are always two engine's worth of career fire fighters on duty with backup from volunteers divided between the main fire station at 6 Catoonah St. and the Ridgebury station at 169 Old Stagecoach Rd. The Ridgefield Fire Department responds to fires as well as to emergency medical calls in the Ridgebury section of town. The chief and the town's fire marshal are based out of the Catoonah Street station.

Stevenson Volunteer Fire Company

In the summer of 1950, a cottage fire in Stevenson spurred area residents to purchase an engine and form their own fire department. A wood and cinder-block building designed by Newtown architect Harold Smith was built and a 1930s vintage American LaFrance pumper was bought from the Bridgeport Fire Department. The Stevenson Volunteer Fire Co. grew from there, adding trucks to its apparatus. In 1964, it became the first fire company in Fairfield County to establish a Junior Volunteer Firefighters Corp.

Port Jefferson Fire Department

The Port Jefferson Fire Department is responsible for the fire safety and emergency rescue operations of the Village of Port Jefferson and the Village of Belle Terre. The area they protect encompasses about 4 square miles and almost 9,000 individuals. Besides area residences they also service the National Grid Power Station, the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Ferry Co., 2 hospitals, 4 schools, health-care facilities, a LIRR station, a very popular harbor, beach and wetland area that hosts a large number of recreational and commercial marine vessels, tourists and many other facilities and businesses. In addition to five companies the Port Jefferson Fire Department also has a ladies auxiliary and a junior fire department.
