Coalition for Hispanic Family Services is a community-based family service agency, which serves the northern area of Brooklyn, N.Y., and adjacent communities. The coalition s mission is to strengthen Latino families in Brooklyn by providing them with culturally competent services that build upon the strengths of Latino culture and lead them towards a greater degree of self-reliance. This is achieved through a holistic, culturally competent and family-based approach. The coalition began as a subcommittee of the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families in 1986. It consisted of a group of child welfare professionals who were concerned about the status of child welfare services to Latino children and families in New York. In 1989, the Coalition for Hispanic Family Services was established as a nonprofit organization in the state of New York.
