Established in 1859, the Church of the Assumption was the first Catholic parish founded in the city of Peekskill. Today, the facilities include an astonishing Victorian-style building that takes up nearly the entire block of 1st Street between Union and Division, right in the heart of downtown. Masses are held every day of the week and overseen by Reverend John J. Higgins, who is lead pastor. Other programs available include a school for children, religious education for adults and CCD. It also has a separate holy day mass schedule and provides services in Spanish.
