Dr. Umfrid completed his undergraduate education at The University of Arizona, where he graduated summa cum laude with degrees in Molecular Biology and Psychology. Following his undergraduate education, he worked as a research assistant at Mayo Clinic before beginning his medical training. He attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and completed internship and residency training in psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at University of Washington prior to joining the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine.He is a current candidate in Adult Psychoanalysis at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. Dr. Umfrid is board certified in adult psychiatry. He has been awarded the William Webb Fellowship by the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, has published and presented on a wide range of topics across general and medical psychiatry, and has been recognized for his work in trainee education and research.
