For many, Cherry Valley Deli and Grill in Whitestone is at the top of the list when it comes to the best tasting and largest selection of sandwiches in the borough. The 24-hour deli serves more than 150 types of heroes, wraps and rolls and they just recently ventured into delivery service, giving local residents even more the reason to scarf down what many have been clamoring about for years. If you are too far for delivery, it is advised to call in orders beforehand to avoid having to wait on lines that could grow especially long during late-night hours. Even if you are stuck on the line of customers, the wait is worth every minute. Looking for a cheeseburger fix, try the Fat Cat. On a toasted hero or roll, you get two burgers, bacon, fried onions, French fries, lettuce tomato, pickles, American cheese, ketchup and mayo. Try one ' and good luck getting your mouth around it. If it's chicken cutlet that you are craving, you could start off simple by getting the TCS, which is a toasted garlic hero or roll with chicken cutlets, American cheese and gravy ( Cherry Valley's No. 1 ingredient ). Add in bacon and what you got is the Bushman. But throw in onion rings and substitute Swiss for the American cheese and you've got the Beast. Almost unheard-of concoctions allow any man-wich eater the chance to delve into hundreds of assortments, and it's best to come prepared. Grab a menu and study it carefully to make sure you haven't missed anything. A diner's best bet is to choose something with gravy, but there's no loss getting something without it or substituting it into any meal. Besides the sandwiches, Cherry Valley also offers a huge selection of appetizers, which include the Couch, which is waffle or regular fries covered in mozzarella cheese and gravy. Others include selections for the Atkins diet, breakfast served 24 hours a day, as well as salads, cold cuts and everything a deli has to offer. During lunch hours, order a hero and you get a free can of soda. There is no sit-down area, but many customers just can't wait to take their sandwiches home and can be found wrapping their jaws around one in their cars. So whether it's on the way home from a bar, breakfast, on your lunch break or you are looking for a very filling dinner, Cherry Valley is a great place to grab a quick bite for a reasonable price. -Michael Rehak Queen Tribune Online www.queenstribune.com
