History
CCFI is consumer controlled. That means that at least 51% of the Center's Board of Directors must be individuals with disabilities. In fact, most of the Center's management and direct service staff are also qualified individuals with disabilities. The people who use our services decide what services they will get and what use they will make of them. They are responsible for the results of the decisions they make. ILC's do not operate any type of residential facility. ILCs are not assisted living or skilled nursing facilities, which is a common misconception. Instead, independent living advocates direct their efforts toward the goal of educating the community on accessibility issues and assist individuals with information on alternative choices and supports to allow them to remain in their community as long as they wish. With the proper support system people with disabilities can live where they choose and pursue their dreams just as any other individual does.
