History
Capoeira Brooklyn began with a vision of the borough's first full-time academy devoted to the culture and community of capoeira, founded by Mestre Foca, the first mestre (master) of capoeira to teach in Brooklyn, and Professora Rouxinol. Now, more than a decade later, that community is thriving, with a diverse and constantly growing student base that reflects the rich physical, social, mental, and spiritual elements of the art. In addition to their regular class schedule for kids and adults, Mestre Foca and Professora Rouxinol also hold residencies at public and private schools throughout New York City, have supported programs at Cornell University and Vassar College in upstate New York, regularly perform with their students in the greater New York City area, and teach workshops around the United States, Canada, and beyond.
