The Capital District Transportation Authority was formed in 1970. The authority is a public benefit organization with a legislative purpose to provide for the continuance, further development and improvement of transportation and other services by railroad, omnibus, marine and air. CDTA s primary operating responsibility is the management of the region s bus services. With the rapid change in development patterns and travel trends in the region, its role has expanded beyond the operation of traditional regular route services. Transportation services include special transit available by request, low-floor/lift-equipped buses, park and ride, rural services, The Link program where several private carriers provide transit service, campus bus services, ShuttleBug service, ShuttleBee service, ShuttleFly service, CDTA's SAFEWATCH program is a cooperative effort with local law enforcement to help make the Capital Region a safer place to live and the CDTA Bus Buddy Program. The Capital District Transportation Authority is headquartered in Albany, N.Y.
