Brown School, founded in 1893, is a nondenominational, independent school in Schenectady, N.Y. It serves students throughout the Capital District in nursery through eighth grade. Apart from academics, the school also offers instruction in vocal and instrumental music, art, physical education, computer skills and foreign language study. Brown School is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and meets all the requirements of the State Education Department. It is accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools. The Brown School board of trustees, consisting of parents, friends, administrators and a representative group of teachers, is responsible for school policy.
