History
How does one end up in the antiquarian book business? We hear that question often. David and Natalie Bauman began our company in 1973 with their first investment in a box of 18th-century imprints, a love of literature and history, and a sense that this could be an interesting way to make a living. Nearly thirty-five years later, with the addition of some forty dedicated and talented researchers, salespersons, creative personnel and office associates, Bauman Rare Books has evolved into one of the finest and most respected antiquarian book firms in existence today. In 1989 we opened our first New York gallery at the Waldorf-Astoria, where we were located for over ten years. Many New Yorkers remember us from our time at the Waldorf, and our presence there, as well as our regular ads featured in the New York Times Book Review, first put us on the map.
