Founded in 1861, Brooklyn Academy of Music is a multiuse urban arts center that provides international performing arts and film programs to Brooklyn, N.Y. It offers a wide range of cultural services, including programs comprising Next Wave Festival, international opera, theater and dance performances, education and humanities program, and a variety of community programs. The academy s department of education and humanities provides students with arts education programs, and curricula that address important artistic, social and political issues. Its facility houses a restaurant and live music venue, and BAM Rose Cinemas, a four-screen theater.
