The Ark Community Charter School, established in 2001, is a public charter school located in Troy, N.Y. It enrolls more than 150 students from kindergarten through five. Class size is limited to up to 22 students with a teacher and a teacher assistant. The school provides a comprehensive education in all core curricular areas, and grade-five curriculum includes classes in various subjects, such as English, mathematics, science and American history. It also gives instructions in health and physical education, computer science, art and music. The school uses a variety of teaching methods, including teaching centers, direct instruction, cooperative learning, and large and small group instruction to target students at-risk of academic failure. The Ark Community Charter School offers a variety of extracurricular activities including sports such as basketball, swimming and volleyball.
