Founded in 1935, Alcoholics Anonymous is a voluntary fellowship of men and women from all walks of life who meet together to attain and maintain sobriety. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. The organization is self-supporting through members contributions, which are limited to $2,000 per year. Alcoholics Anonymous is not allied with any sect, denomination, political party, organization or institution. The organization does not endorse or oppose any causes. There are no dues or fees for a membership. There are more than 100,000 Alcoholics Anonymous groups and 2,000,000-plus members in more than 150 countries. Alcoholics Anonymous is headquartered in New York.
