In 1933, Air Orient, Air Union, the Soci t G n rale de Transport A rien (SGTA, formerly Lignes Farman) and the C.I.D.N.A. (formerly Franco-Roumaine) started up a joint airline named Soci t Centrale pour l'Exploitation des Lignes A riennes (S.C.E.L.A.). The airline was named Air France in August 1933, following the takeover of the assets of the bankrupt A ropostale. The company has regional carrier subsidiaries including R gional, Brit Air and CityJet. Air France is a founding member of SkyTeam that, since September 2004, includes Aeromexico, Alitalia, Continental Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines. Besides this alliance, Air France has also signed special agreements with 40 or so partners the world over. Air France USA, an affiliate of Air France, is headquartered in New York City.
