The American Federation of Government Employees, also known as AFGE, offers legal representation and legislative advocacy services. It is one of the largest federal employee unions that represent more than 600,000 workers in the United States and overseas. Established in 1997, the agecny is comprised of communications, membership and organization, field services and education, and women's and fair practices departments. The American Federation of Government Employees represents government workers who inspect food and workplaces, protect citizens from the illicit flow of drugs and maintain the safety of the country s borders. It is a member of the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration and Department of Justice. The agency is divided into over 10 geographical districts consisting of nearly 1,000 locals.
