The Epidemiology and Response Division is a part of the Health Department of New Mexico that tracks infectious diseases and health statistics. The division trains organizations in disease control, responds to public health emergencies and provides vital records services. It issues more than 228,000 birth and death certificates and registers over 28,000 births and nearly 14,000 deaths each year. The Epidemiology and Response Division provides vital records from hospitals, midwives, funeral directors, tribes and pueblos. Its Bureau of Health Emergency Management creates and develops programs dedicated to awareness, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery for the public, first responders, medical personnel and hospitals. The Epidemiology and Response Division maintains an office in Santa Fe, N.M.
