The second-largest privately owned ink company in the United States, Superior Printing Ink operates 25 full-service lithographic ink manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S. It caters to clients in the sheet-fed printing ink market and also operates plants dedicated to the manufacture of varnish, small-press inks and flexographic and gravure inks. The company works via two subsidiaries: Gotham Ink, which supplies flexographic and gravure inks, and Covar, which manufactures vehicles for printing inks, as well as overprint varnishes and press-side ink additives. Superior Printing Ink was founded by Harry Kriegel in 1918. The company has headquarters in New York and production facilities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida and California.
