The Public Works Division is a part of the Department of Community Services, which is governed by the city of Summit in New Jersey. The division maintains streets, shade trees, storm sewers and sanitary systems throughout the city. It also manages traffic signals, street name signs, public parks, buildings and grounds. The Public Works Division supports equipment and vehicles and operates garage and roads units. The Department of Community Services is responsible for engineering and code administration activities. The department additionally oversees planning and zoning operations. It provides assistance with the issuance of grading and drainage permits. The Department of Community Services undertakes road improvement, curb and sidewalk projects.
