Founded in 1887, Skanska started by manufacturing cement products. The business diversified into a construction company, received its first international order within 10 years. Skanska has assisted Sweden's infrastructure by building roads, power stations and housing. The company entered markets in the Middle East and Africa in the late 1960s as well as Poland and the former Soviet Union in the 1970s. Its primary markets include Sweden, the United States, United Kingdom, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland and Argentina. Skanska operates within the whole value-circle, from small-scale building projects to total responsibility in meeting customers long-term needs within construction-related services. Its operations also include a facility located in Carteret, N.J.
