Saad Chaudhary, MD

Roshan P. Shah, MD, JD, specializes in hip and knee reconstruction using minimally invasive techniques for less pain and faster recovery times. He believes there are many valuable pain-relieving treatments that do not involve surgery. When an operation is needed, he embraces careful surgical techniques with attention to the biological, anatomical, and mechanical restoration that is critical for a pain-free return of function. Dr. Shah has a particular interest in complex primary and revision hip and knee replacements, as well as associated fractures and infections. As Director of Complex Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Columbia University, he has reconstructed failed total hips and knees using sophisticated techniques and technologies. He has successfully treated patients from across the United States and neighboring countries, finding solutions to problems that stump others. Dr. Shah has made several contributions to research, having published 40 peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and editorials, in addition to giving more than 30 scientific presentations. He served as editor of the University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal and the Yale Journal of Health Law, Policy, and Ethics. He was also an associate editor for the Stanford Law and Policy Review. Dr. Shah has been honored with multiple research awards, including 1st place at the Orthopaedic Research and Education Fund/Orthopaedic Research Society symposium, 2nd place at the Philadelphia Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine Research Symposium, the AO Kathryn Cramer Award, and the University of Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Journal Resident Recognition Award. He holds one provisional patent application for a patient safety device innovation. As a former Washington health policy fellow for both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Dr. Shah continues to advocate for policies that serve patients, improve access to care, and support research and innovation. He was invited to speak on FDA regulatory issues and innovation within the field of orthopedic surgery at a meeting in Washington, D.C. A native of Camden, New York, he earned his B.A. in Chemistry from Dartmouth College, with additional concentrations in philosophy and public policy. He received his doctor of medicine degree from Yale University and his juris doctor degree from Stanford University. He was a resident in orthopedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the DeForest Willard Award for outstanding performance as an orthopedic senior resident and the Marvin E. Steinberg, MD Award in Adult Reconstruction for outstanding work in the field of adult reconstruction surgery. He also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship (in the field of tissue engineering for orthopaedic surgery applications) at the McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory. Before joining ColumbiaDoctors, he completed a fellowship in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction at Rush University. Additionally, he has travelled to Wrightington, England to study advanced principles of the hip at the Charnley Centre for Hip Surgery.

Thomas S. Bottiglieri, DO, is a sports medicine physician specializing in the management of orthopedic injuries and disorders impacting athletes at all skill levels from adolescents to seniors. In addition to treating the full spectrum of muscle, bone, tendon, and joint injuries, Dr. Bottiglieri is a nationally recognized expert in the field of concussion care. His practice stresses shared decision-making with patients and their families and uses the latest medical technology, evidence-based sports medicine, and a compassionate, patient-centered approach. As a former competitive athlete who sustained a career-ending injury, Dr. Bottiglieri has a personal connection with athletes and knows the benefits that athletics can provide. His practice tracks sports injuries in community organizations, school-based athletics, as well as professional and elite sports to better understand risk factors and appropriate treatment for athletic injuries. His practice stresses proper prevention and management strategies in order to minimize the physical and emotional toll of an athletic injury. Dr. Bottiglieri is a regular contributor to local educational initiatives and an invited speaker at national medical conferences on the diagnosis and management of concussions, as well as the use of biologics in sport medicine. His ongoing research includes a large concussion registry, work on the autonomic nervous system in athletic brain injury, rehabilitation of post-concussion syndrome, and evaluating best-practices for the use of biologics in the treatment of athletic injuries and arthritis. Dr. Bottiglieri’s practice is on the front line of advanced methods for joint preservation and soft-tissue treatment, including diagnostic ultrasound imaging and guided injection procedures designed to improve outcomes for routine cortisone injections, hyaluronic acid derivatives, and platelet-rich-plasma (PRP). In addition to his academic and clinical work, Dr. Bottiglieri is a venue medical officer for the New York City Football Club, and is Head Team physician for the Alliance University Warriors and New Jersey Hitmen. He also serves as the medical director for numerous high schools in Bergen County, Passaic County, and New York City. As the Director of Wellbeing for the Department of Orthopedics at Columbia, and Chairman of the committee for organizational culture, Dr Bottiglieri is keenly aware of the high demands and stressors on professionals. His approach to the overall mental and physical health of athletes transcends sport and applies to his work in optimizing performance while balancing stress at work. William N. Levine, MD is a nationally and globally renowned specialist in arthroscopic and open shoulder, elbow, and knee surgery, and sports medicine. He is Chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he holds the Frank E. Stinchfield Professorship in Orthopedic Surgery and serves as Chief of the Orthopedics Service at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Levine previously served the Department as Vice Chairman for Education, Residency and Fellowship Director, Chief of the Shoulder Service, and Co-Director of the Center for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine. In 2024, Dr. Levine was awarded the inaugural American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) Foundation's Founders Legacy Award in Leadership honoring Dr. Louis U. Bigliani. The peer-nominated awards recognize outstanding members who demonstrate the core characteristics of the organizations original founders: Leadership, Service, Diversity and Mentorship. After serving as Head Team Physician for Columbia University athletics for 25 years, Dr. Levine retired from the role in late-2023. Under his guidance, the department's surgeons also function as Team Physicians for the New York Yankees, the Rockland Boulders, Fordham University, Manhattan College, City College of New York, as well as over 25 high schools. Dr. Levine is a consultant for the National Hockey League Players' Association and chairs the Shoulder and Elbow subcommittee for the National Football League. As a former teaching tennis professional and the starting goalie for Stanford University's club hockey team, Dr. Levine is passionate about sports medicine and dedicated to patient care. He has been named a “Top Doctor in Sports Medicine” by Castle Connolly and New York Magazine, and one of the top 25 shoulder surgeons in the United States by Orthopedics This Week. Dr. Levine is a past member of the Executive Committee of the American Orthopedic Association, the world’s first orthopedic association and the organization primarily responsible for the development of orthopedics as a discipline separate from general surgery. He also served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the governing body overseeing licensure and training of orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Levine is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He also received the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon's Traveling Fellowship. Dr. Levine is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Herodicus Society, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. He has made substantial contributions to research, having published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, written over 50 book chapters, edited 11 textbooks, and given over 400 scientific presentations in the United States and abroad. He holds multiple patents and research grants. A native of Fargo, North Dakota, he received a B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Case Western Reserve. He was a resident in orthopedic surgery at Tufts Medical Center and held fellowships at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in Shoulder Surgery and the University of Maryland in Sports Medicine. He joined Columbia's Department of Orthopedic Surgery in 1998, became Residency Director in 2002, and in 2006 was awarded the Charles S. Neer, M.D. Teacher of the Year Award for his enthusiasm, passion, and dedication to resident education. He lives in Manhattan with his wife and two daughters.
