Located in Ringwood, N.J., the Ramapo Mountain State Forest is a sanctuary for wildlife that provides a range of opportunities and resources for individuals. It covers and area of more than 4,260 acres. The state maintains facilities at the forest that serve as a venue for organizing outdoor recreational events. It maintains various ponds, streams and marshes that serve as a habitat for bird and other wildlife species. The Ramapo Mountain State Forest features a variety of trails for hiking, mountain biking and cross country skiing. In addition, it offers boating, bird watching, biking and riding activities. Maintained by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, park rangers and volunteers also conduct fishing, hunting, canoeing and horseback riding.
