The Port Authority Police, created in 1928, offers law enforcement and public safety services in Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia. It handles more than 80 million air passengers, over 1 million aircraft movement and nearly 2.5 million tons of air cargo annually. The authority police covers screening points, responds to aircraft incidents and aids travelers from various parts of the world. In addition, the Port Authority Police also escorts and protects visiting dignitaries and the heads of states. It is also responsible for firefighting and crash emergency rescue at airports and for several other aircraft emergency incidents. With an office in Newark, N.J., the authority s police is trained in the operation of sophisticated and complex equipment, firefighting vehicles and water rescue equipment.
