Established in 1926, the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department works to protect lives and property from fire, natural disasters and other emergencies through education, prevention, fire suppression and mitigation. It is comprised of more than 60 firefighters, associate members and explorers. The department houses a fleet of brush trucks, engines, rescue boats, pumps and ladders. The Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department has a fire safety unit that provides information regarding smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, fireplace, space heaters and electrical hazards. It operates a communication center that coordinates responses to fire and medical emergency and nonemergency calls. The department is located in Toms River, N.J.
