In 1968, Walter Worrall, a Morris County newspaper printer and ad salesman, purchased his first newspaper, the News-Record of Maplewood and South Orange. The News-Record has been in publication since 1889. Published every Thursday, the paper has 6,500 paid subscribers.
One of ten Worrall Community Newspapers in Essex County under the aegis of editor Steve Proctor, it details goings-on in the two communities in print and on the Web, making use of seven reporters and two sports reporters. The paper publicizes events for non-profits such as churches without charge.
