The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, also known as NJMC, is a zoning and planning agency. It administers more than 30-square-mile area along the Hackensack River covering parts of over 10 municipalities in Bergen and Hudson counties in New Jersey. The agency manages William D. McDowell Observatory, which hosts astronomy classes for students. The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission also operates the NJMC Center for Environmental and Scientific Education, which provides educational opportunities for nearly 40,000 residents, tourists and students. The agency manages plan review, site plan and special projects group. In addition, it works to ensure the proper control, closure and remediation of landfills. The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission offers land use and emergency management services.
