Masque Sound was established in 1936 by three Broadway stagehands. They purchased a small record label and began to produce sound effects records and rent sound equipment for Broadway shows. The business soon expanded beyond rental and effects records and toward providing complete audio systems for live entertainment. In the early 1950s, the company was one of the first to adopt tape technology for the theater. It has provided sound for the majority of Broadway shows and first-class touring productions. Some of the early productions included Oklahoma, South Pacific, Grease and Cats. More recent productions include The Phantom Of The Opera, Les Miserables, Tommy, Rent, Mamma Mia! and The Lion King. The company also provides sound reinforcement solutions for television productions, sporting event shows, corporate events, special events, live concerts and conventions. Masque Sound is headquartered in East Rutherford, N.J.
